Backups
In addition to protecting from hardware failures, data backups make your data portable if your account with a service provider is suspended. You want to make backups before you need them.
We recommend enabling Coop Cloud's backup functionality to enable continuous backups. Instead of being one and done, the backups work continuously, so you don't have to go too far back when recovering your data. We also recommend using a 3-2-1 backup strategy and validating your backups.
Client-side encryption is a requirement for backups. This is because many service providers will automatically scan content.
Coop Cloud (using Restic) handles this for you.
Keep the Restic password secret because it allows surveillance of your backups.
Tip
Coop Cloud doesn't back up your secrets, such as encryption keys or database passwords. Save those in a password manager.
Storage Providers
- Hetzner Storage Boxes are simple servers you can use to store files. https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-box/
- Garage is another storage option that requires more work to set up and adminster a cluster but more flexibility https://garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr/
